It appears that the words "Customer Service" no longer mean anything close to what they used to. In the past 30 years or so, "Thank you for coming." or "Thank you, have a nice day." has changed into "Here you go." or "See ya." The latter of these are the reason for this little rant.
I am sure that if you pay attention the next time you spend money anywhere you will take notice of what I am talking about. Too many of the people who work as clerks or in positions that relate directly with the public forget this; The customers as a whole PAY YOUR FUCKING WAGES!!! Without them you would not have a job. Perhaps if you are in customer relations you might want to remember that the next time you cash your check or buy gifts for your family. Now before I get too into this let me just say. I know there are people out there who are truly grateful for their jobs and treat the customer with the respect they deserve. If you are one of them, my hats off to you. You are definitely in the minority.
I am tired of hearing the phrase. "Here you go." After you pay for anything and they hand you your change. I don't care if it is a .89 candy bar or a 1200$ flat screen. The least they should say is, "Thank you, Have a nice day." and DO IT WITH A FUCKING SMILE!!! Anything less than this should prompt you to speak to the manager about his employees customer service skills. I myself have ceased my patronage at certain places of business due to shitty customer service.
If you don't like being nice to the customers, then hey, newsflash, FIND A DIFFERENT FUCKING JOB where you don't have to deal with the public!!! They always need ditch diggers. As for those that continue to treat the customers like shit, if your boss doesn't correct the problem, I have no doubt he will lose customers over time. If he loses enough they will have to close, and you will be out of a job.
Another lost art in customer service is the act of counting back change. I believe that it only makes sense to count back change, for two reasons. 1st, you might make a mistake in counting the change the register tells you to give back. 2nd It is a form of double checking, when it comes to money always double check. With all these things considered, I have no doubt that if you treat the customer with respect and a smile you will find that it makes your job much easier. Of course you will always have those asshole customers, however if you still treat them with respect and a smile, they end up being the assholes, not you.
......and that's the BRUTAL TRUTH the way I see it.....

Customer service is extinct. Most of the help these days is supplied by a bunch of Emo cunts. Have you had the most enjoyable shopping experience where, you are ready to check out, only to wait for them to finish responding to a text message, or to finish gossiping about how cute this one is, or what that one did to the other? Infuriating! I don't care about that crap, just sell me my stuff so I can leave.
ReplyDeleteDarron, thank you so much for your comment! I have fallen "victim" to what you talk about in your comment. You are absolutely correct in the fact that it is truly aggravating when that happens.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your readership.
